What Do We Say in Ruku & Sujood? My First Prayer Series

When we pray, we praise Allah and ask Him for blessings. Two very important positions in Salah are:

1️⃣ Ruku (Bowing) – When we bend forward.
2️⃣ Sujood (Prostration) – When we place our forehead on the ground.

Let’s learn what we say in each of these positions!

1. What Do We Say in Ruku (Bowing)?

📖 Allah says in the Qur’an:
“O you who have believed, bow and prostrate and worship your Lord.” (Surah Al-Hajj 22:77)

When we go into Ruku, we bend forward and place our hands on our knees. Our back should be straight.

🔹 We say:
Subhana Rabbiyal ‘Azim
👉 “Glory be to my Lord, the Almighty.”

What does this mean?
✅ We praise Allah’s greatness.
✅ We remember that He controls everything in the universe.

📌 Did you know?
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) loved saying this dua in Ruku because it shows humility before Allah.

2. What Do We Say When We Stand Up from Ruku?

After Ruku, we stand straight and say:

🔹 سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ
Sami’Allahu liman hamidah
👉 “Allah hears those who praise Him.”

Then, we say:

Rabbana lakal-hamd
👉 “Our Lord, all praise is for You.”

Why is this important?
✅ It reminds us to thank Allah for everything He has given us.
✅ It shows that Allah listens to us when we pray.

3. What Do We Say in Sujood (Prostration)?

📖 The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in Sujood, so make lots of dua.” (Sahih Muslim)

When we go into Sujood, we place our forehead, nose, hands, knees, and toes on the ground.

🔹 We say:
Subhana Rabbiyal A’la
👉 “Glory be to my Lord, the Most High.”

Why is Sujood so special?
✅ It is the most beloved position in Salah.
✅ It is when we are closest to Allah.
✅ We can make dua in Sujood, and Allah will listen!

📌 Did you know?
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to cry in Sujood when making dua because he felt so close to Allah.

4. What Do We Say Between Two Sujood?

After the first Sujood, we sit for a moment and say:

🔹 رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي
Rabbighfir li
👉 “O my Lord, forgive me.”

Why do we say this?
✅ To ask Allah to forgive our mistakes.
✅ To feel humble and grateful to Allah.

Then, we go into the second Sujood and say Subhana Rabbiyal A’la again.

Why Are Ruku and Sujood Important?

They show our humility before Allah.
They bring us closer to Allah.
They help us focus in our prayers.

📌 Did you know?
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Perform Sujood often, because every time you prostrate, Allah raises you in status and removes your sins.” (Sahih Muslim)

That’s why we should love making Sujood!
